Tree Removal in The Woodlands
The Woodlands was built inside a forest on purpose, and that is exactly why a tree that has to come out here takes more thought than it would almost anywhere else in Houston.
Most lots in The Woodlands still carry the tall pines and hardwoods the community was planned around. The Township says it plainly: residential lots "have been developed to preserve as much of the natural forest as possible." Living under that canopy is the reason people move here. It also means the tree you are worried about is usually tall, close to the roof, and surrounded by other trees and a finished yard you want left alone.
Check with the Township before a healthy tree comes down
The Woodlands Township's residential standards regulate tree removal on residential lots and can require replanting afterward. The Township's Covenant Administration publishes the standards, and the rules can differ from one village to the next, so the first call for a healthy tree you simply want gone is to Covenant Administration, before anyone starts a saw. If a replanting requirement is set and the lot genuinely cannot support it, the Township asks for a written document from a certified arborist or another qualified forestry professional before it will reconsider.
You can read the Township's own summary on its Covenants and Standards page. When we walk your property for the estimate, we'll talk through where your tree falls and what to ask the Township.
What removal looks like under a Woodlands canopy
A tall pine beside a house rarely comes down in one piece. It comes down in sections, from the top, so each piece lands where it is supposed to and nothing hits the roof, the fence, or the trees you are keeping. That is owner-supervised work. Our owner has over a decade of experience, walks every job with you first, and supervises the crew on the day.
- A free on-site estimate. The owner looks at the tree, the house, the fence line and the access, and gives you a clear written number before any work starts.
- Our own equipment. We own the equipment for any size job, so a tall tree in a tight backyard is a normal day, not a special order.
- The stump, your choice. Grinding takes the stump several inches below grade so you can re-sod or replant. Full removal pulls the stump and the main root ball when something is going in that spot. See whether a stump needs to come out at all.
- Full clean-up included. We haul off the wood and debris and rake the ground, so the yard is neater than we found it.
When it can't wait
A tree leaning on the house, a trunk split after a storm, or a large limb hanging over the driveway is an emergency. Get everyone clear, stay away from any downed line (call 911 if a wire is down), and call (832) 423-6445 as soon as it is safe. We move emergencies up the schedule. A tree that has already fallen or is actively failing is a safety call first, and the Township paperwork for a healthy tree is a different conversation.

Signs a Woodlands tree may need to come out
- A heavy, one-sided crown leaning toward the house.
- Large dead limbs still attached high in the tree.
- Cracks or splits where big branches meet the trunk.
- Mushrooms or other fungal growth at the base.
- A fresh lean after a storm, or roots lifting out of the ground.
- A pine that is browning from the top down. See which pine needle changes are normal in fall and which are not.
Any one of those is worth a look. If you are unsure, the estimate is free and there is no obligation.
